Differences Between Clay & Concrete Roof Tiles
Clay Tiles
For years, clay roof tiles have been a popular option. Made by baking moulded clay, their natural colour (which does not fade as much as concrete tiles) brings a characteristic design.
Pros
- Durable colour resistance
- Clay tiles are considerably lighter than concrete tiles
- Long lifespan
Cons
- Non-customizable (ie colour changes)
Concrete Tiles
Another option is concrete roof tiles, made almost in the same way as normal concrete by mixing cement, sand & water. The positive to this material is that of its strength, Concrete tiles are known to survive well in severe weather conditions. As the finished surface, after production, can remain plain, there are various characteristics which can be modified.
Pros
- Available in a range of colours
- Low maintenance
- A cost-effective option to clay
Cons
- Heavier than clay, meaning harder to install & work with
